Serpent's Reach

Serpent's Reach

A Poem by Seriana

Serpent’s Reach

Waters woosh with a moaning, hollow cry,

swallowing the depths of betrayal left behind,

conceding to twilight above.

The waning moon peeks ‘round the corner of a night-smitten cloud,

one that watches the beyond from above,

an alias to silent night.

Overspray whimpers,

sloshing hesitantly through an internal inferno,

a war of faith,

as it were

betwixt the underworld and the night,

coming to an acute halt in time,

silence in a rhythm of fading dissonance.

The sound,

suddenly hushed,

gentle,

as waves froth and hiss in mute,

languidly swaying,

lapping against an unremarkable shore.

It’s lore up there.

atop,

to be guided by wind sloping up and out of fright,

spiraling tendrils of echoing belief,

hoovering as breath,

blowing on the rise of sound out of sight,

to be speared aloft the valiant pillars,

aglow,

beauty abound in the serpent’s reach…

the journey of an ending’s birth

You draw us into a world both haunting and beautiful... the waning moon, an "alias to silent night," feels like a quiet companion to the soul’s battle... a witness to the conflict between underworld and twilight. The rhythm of your lines mirrors the ebb and flow of the internal inferno you describe so vividly... how this stirs the heart and mind in equal measure.

'..The sound,

That reads rather like Life having its way with human beings.. awarding, admonishing, greeting and going.. as happens day by day without a thought to the seasons. Beautiful words for a beautiful thought, Life wearing all its colours, giving the choice of how each of us sees it. Beautiful thoughts will linger for the day.. and longer. Many thanks.

Very nicely expressed, with eloquence and very much in your own style. It reminded me of another location, named after a serpent; known as Snake's Pass. It has no direct water connection, but still a treacherous route to Derbyshire's spa town of Buxton. During particularly harsh weather conditions, it occasionally becomes blocked by debris.

Thanks for sharing.

Good to know.
This was really beautiful and reminded me of some of the sprays off the Oregon coast splashing against the protruding rocks. Is the "serpent" a current or something pertaining to the mountain? At any rate, a lovely write.
