As I gaze in your eyes today.

 

Time does not pass but now you’re here,

How quickly our time flies today.

 

Just turn your look away from him,

And see how someone dies today. 

 

You’ll see him in the shining stars,

Just look up at the skies today.

 

He cannot drive away your thoughts,

No matter how he tries today.

Wah, wah! Superb ghazal, bro. Excellent couplets there- especially the second one. How very well you have expressed your deep love for the girl, and how very well the poem flows- this is the characteristic feature of ghazals: the flow is superb. An excellent ending, a bit sad, but nice. Keep writing, and well-written.

An "English Ghazel" Iv'e not heart of this poem form. It was interesting and beautiful. So it must be using the same end word in second line stanza? Eight syllables. Hmmmm you have inspired me! Impressive poem. Blessings, Kathy

Kathy, this form of poetry is very common in urdu and Persian literature.
The second line of each couplet rhymes with the opening couplet.
I have read many ghazals in English but the poets fail to maintain this rhyming pattern.
Hope you give it a try.

I don't think you are very familiar with Urdu ghazals. The writer refers to himself in third tense quite often.

Sadly, although I have been to many a ghazal performance. The meaning often escapes me as my Urdu is quite basic, despite having grown up in Pakistan. I am familiar with ghazals referring to a lover or the beloved but didn't think that the ghazal would refer to the writer himself.
