Broken

Wrote this back in my freshman year of high school. Those were fun days.

Broken

When you're broken, in a million little pieces
It feels as though no one cares
You hope someone will notice you
But it's like asking for a miracle

And you're trying, but you can't hold on anymore
You feel as though your arms will be ripped off
You hold onto the invisible branch that holds you
But you know there's nothing you can do

Every deer falls down for a reason
Just like when they're shot at in season
You feel like that same deer
Being shot at, without a care

Don't you stop believing in yourself
If you keep praying, then you'll survive
It may take a while
But it's worth the wait

You feel like your heart is torn in two
But you don't know by whom
You feel shaken and betrayed
When you're broken

If some of the words sound familiar, the assignment of the class was to take a song we've heard and make a poem about it.

The shame of assignments is - most often the pieces are more power-full than the whole, at least to me. Students overtry to fill the blankness and carry the habit from that point on.

Your first stanza was a standalone thought... you brought many things into a focus. Being any age at all gave it validity and heart.

Oh Yes! So-So true, a very inspiring read and so truthful. I really loved it all buut the last 3 stanza's stuck out the most.....xo
