" A red flower blooms through the snow, pieces of blood and bone "

black Ravens  

battle the falling snow

descending an ancient call

emerge keeper of souls

over the open fields of winter

men will rise

men have fallen

a lie at the foot of a royal throne

power stands with a wicked backbone

naming one for one equals no betrayal

behold any dictator can wear the symbol

mortality paces the shadows of denial

shuffling souls for an appraisal

destruction of life

the ever compelling adversary

a forefathers cornerstone

command their force be deadly

the rock of nurturing mothers

reach the deadly arms men cradle

another heir is born

a soldier's blood stained fable

  

the impatience of devastation

create a perfect invasion

fear resides with a spectator vision

innocence is reserved for devastation

red flowers bloom through the snow

a season holds the earth frozen

bodies rest a peace without a stone

dismiss signs of life for surrender

indifferent to the blood and bone

Author's Note

Corvus, the Latin word with diverse meaning. Used in reference to a species of bird, Ravens, Crows and Rooks. This particular species has a diverse history with the spirit world. In the Norse mythology chief God Odin had two ravens they symbolized his mind and thoughts. He put the Raven symbol on the battlefield flags the dead were covered with their symbol for their welcoming in to VALHALLA. If your still reading Thank you and God Bless.

This is really one of the unique pieces I have read so far which speaks to the reader in its own way.
A powerful write with some good imagery :-)
We all will die one day no matter how we live either sticking to good or bad or living with all might.Someone Supreme is watching everything and his call will be the final one..There are so many viewpoints to dig in this write. Some amazing and amusing phrases have been used here. I absolutely loved reading this whole write but especially the second stanza where you wrote about betrayal, power and mortality.

Hey there, congratulations on getting third place in my Figurative Formula contest! To start off, I'm a bit of a sucker for dark poetry to begin with, so this one definitely caught my eye with the picture of Ravens, the styling and the content. This one didn't have as much figurative language in it as some of the other submissions I read, but the power and creativity in what it did have is amazing. You really got me hooked with lines such as "Power plays a wicked game with betrayal" and "The impatient devastation finally arrives". The way you presented this is also neat, the italics, bold lettering and overall vocabulary you used all serve to augment the gloomy, eerie atmosphere this piece generates. Superb performance! :)

Thank you for an amazing review. This is my first poem written from my imagination. All my other poetry is real life inspired by true events. I have a jaded sometimes to dark view of the world that's comes out in my writing. I appreciate you words. They give me confidence. Again thank you.

a constellation also called Crow or raven in Latin. very creative and i learned something new. the quest for power, survival, betrayal and our own mortality. conflict and its destruction. very powerful thoughts and imagery. deep. so many thoughts in this.

to sum up - to me it speaks of the troubles of life but it all comes out in the end because we all must die eventually. there is a higher power that has the last word and can persevere through all those troubles and that is what we must focus on and cling to. give in or fight. wow!
