What Are They

What Are They

A Poem by Shelby Baker

Hormones: what are they?

They make you feel as if your going to die

Feel at times lonely as hell.

Happy one minute and the other like your somebody that doesn't belong

Makes you want to punch the wall

They make you desire the one you love

They make you hate people you love

They make you feel as if nobody in the world sees you.

Makes you feel like nobody loves you

Makes you unsure of yourself Makes you feel shy

They make you cry either from happiness or pain

hormones are a part of life..

I liked the simple truth of it and for the most part, that's all that really matters.

We sometimes complicate things as we grow away from childhood forgetting that the eyes of a child oftentimes are clearer for the lack of adult disillusionment.

You were obviously very astute at the age of ten. ;)

I like it, it's simple words used to describe a simple idea. Exactly the type of writing that speaks to the majority of readers. Great work.

P.S. You were ten when you wrote this? That is quite impressive.

So true, they can be a balance yet we feel anything in an instant.

For someone of only 10, this is quite thought-provoking. Clearly, it does not really have a rhyme scheme or flow. At that age, perhaps you were confusing hormones with emotions? After all, at that age, hormones are not really too significant.

On the otherhand, I wondered what life-experiences tempted you to write this piece?

"hormones are a part of life.." With this closing line, you seem to be accepting the inevitable truth!

check out (if you haven't already) "What the Bleep Do We Know". Really good philosophical movie about hormones and the falseness of emotions caused by them.

You were able to put onto the page something I know I didn't grasp as well at 10,
so definitely nods for that. It reads as an observance, but I think when we begin
writing and from that viewpoint, it allows us a bit of distance to explore.
Personal touches and weaving in experiences adds the grit. Looking forward to
reading more.

Pen on! :)

Considering you were 10 when you wrote it, I'll give you kudos. There are a few structure issues, but overall not bad. Nicely penned...

It isn't the best work I've seen, but it's not the worst. I like how it is a subject that isn't written about often, which makes it less likely to be compared to other things.

Wonderful view on a rather usually-scientifically defined term.
Sweet and humorous read, from someone who's been there.

Keep writing,
