Don't call me smart. Don't call me dumb.

Yes I am determined to be right and yes I want to prove you wrong.

Yes I am truly interested in what you're saying and yes I want to learn.

But don't call me smart. Don't call me dumb.

Yes at times I feel defeated and yes at times I am unmotivated.

Yes I truly don't care what you're saying and yes I want to unlearn.

Yes I have an answer and yes I have a question.

Yes I may seem to know more and yes there is more I don't know.

But don't call me smart. Don't call me dumb.

I may seem bright and cheery, but I do have a dark side.

I may feel down and weary, but I do see the light side.

I may feel confident in myself and I may confuse myself more than others do.

I can remember things easily and I still find it hard to recall.

I have strong emotions and weak reactions.

I can be passive and I can be aggressive.

I can become involved in life and I can watch it from afar.

I can be attentive and I can be unaware. 

Don't call me smart. Don't call me dumb.

I may get A's and not retain.

I may struggle to pass but at least I gained.

I love to gain knowledge but I hate struggle needed for retain.

Yes I've been exposed to much but there are still things I need exposure to.

But don't call me smart. Don't call me dumb. 

I will never fit your description of either one.
