The Radiance of Love

The Radiance of Love

A Poem by CStansfield

She hides in the dark, away from others

Surrounded by the haze of pain she suffers

She sits alone, in silence and fear
In the cold and dark, with no one to hear

He wishes his sister would leave her room

He devises a plan to save her from gloom

He cracks the door open just a bit

Hoping the light would shine through the slit

As she sits curled up, her life gray and charmless,

A shimmer of light pierces the darkness
She follows the light to discover a door
As she slowly treads across the floor

As they meet in the hallway, he smiles at her

But in response, she does not stir
He takes her by the hand and out into the yard

Hoping for her to lower her guard

She knows her brother is trying his best
But even the sunlight won’t put her to rest

He doesn’t stop at the yard; he opens the gate

And takes her off to some unknown fate

He knows what she is going through
He himself had gone through it too
His world had been gray and sad
And there was no solution except the one he had

Her curiosity piqued, she follows him faster

Her gray world beginning to blur right past her

Her only focus was on tailing her brother
Just like the lightning is chased by the thunder

As they sprinted, he gathered the rainbows

Calling them from the sky, pulling them close

The colors giggled before reaching their target

The girl's gray exterior, a haze to orbit

As the swirls danced, she remained unaware

Only her brother held her hard stare
She slowly tired out, she began to slow

Looking down, pushing how hard she could go

As he glanced back at her and the auroras forming

He stopped in his tracks and let her keep storming

She sprinted past him, head still down
Her mouth bent in a concentrated frown

As she continued to run, her head snapped up

Thinking that she needed to speed up
But her brother was gone and instead
A cloud of swirls winked at her as she sped

As he watched her slow and wonder at the cloud,

He couldn’t help himself but to be proud
She had come so far from just a few minutes ago
And all because he had set her room aglow

As the haze taken by the cloud dispersed

Inside of her a bubble burst

Her once gray sight now flooded with color

Absorbing the rainbows from her brother

As he watched her bright face turn toward him

He knew he had dispersed all the grim
With so much love and so many smiles
How could loneliness last a long while?

As she returned to her room, dark and cold

She flipped on the switch, and behold
Her newfound friends flooded in
Filling the holes her heart had therein

He watched in silence as she started anew

Her room no longer a place of solitude
She had found the hope for which she had longed

And now she felt like she truly belonged

Thank you, brother, for pushing me out of my shell

You’re the only one who knows me this well
You knew that I needed more than myself
The radiance of your love brought back my health
