Half Asleep

Half Asleep

A Poem by Shownashappening

There's a phenomena
-called unihemispheric slow wave sleep
A selecting dormancy to half the brain
And body; I wonder which side picks-
Delegate, or delegatee?

It shows as legs tucking in wings and lazing eyes
Removed from scanning
And the sides swap from time to time
Like visual stereo panning

I have half a mind to think we have the same
My dominant hand and leg only point and step
Towards things of which I'm only half convinced
-Are demonstrating in us, this sleep

But maybe, my judgements are darkened like midnights smothering embrace, after all, I'm half asleep.

An interesting subject for a poem. It reminded me of reading about dolphins sleeping with half the brain, the half awake to prevent drowning. And their brains switch back and forth.
