Leaning Away

Leaning Away

A Poem by Shredded Cabbage

edge of the world-
the night does not hold

she leans away from me

her moon has no heart
hollowed into absence

her stars have no mouths
so to speak, collapse

time has entered it
wind has written through

pain has stretched
along the stitches
narrow as a vein

a low relentless sound
has gathered
to shift something deeper

then a light climbs in silence
to fracture a memory
of pressure

a sadness so surrendered
it almost means nothing

your god does not guide
nor does he listen

what you hear
is as much the wind
as it is your own voice

still the night remains-
leaning away from you
