One Creature

One Creature

A Poem by Shredded Cabbage

At first touch,
our love felt holy.

Blue pressure
against our spines,
light gathering
inside our shoulders
as we surrendered
into one creature.

But the body learns
even gods must
fracture slowly.

One faithful vertebra
after another.

I remember
the strange tenderness
of holding everything together
for you.

Memory slipping
through my hands
like sand-scratched
prayers.

But this is the nature
of failing worlds.

They must survive
by forgetting.

What an interesting, beautiful piece of writing! “Memory slipping through my hands like sand-scratched prayers.” A delightful read.
