Love this war will kill us

Love this war will kill us

A Poem by Sidewalk

It’s hard when a postcard’s

the only view you’ve got

when everything you wanted

is something you gave up

I’ll lose her through attrition

just like this f*****g war

chasing after glory

we all had hoped for

quit dreaming

you aren’t sleeping

you’ve got time to die

let go of your future

or you’re gonna

make her cry

I stand at attention

to ponder what I’ve gave

my youth’s my contribution

a salute to my flag

she won’t understand

why I refuse to sleep

a pack of smokes in my hand

and a bible at my feet

so I’ll leave home

on a midnight stroll

when the concrete

smells like rain

and leave this world

two weeks too soon

the same way that I came
