Part 1: Deep thoughts

Part 1: Deep thoughts

A Story by J. Lynn

I am a failure. A failure to myself, my family, my friends, AND my school! It's like no matter what I do I FAIL! I am a smart kid, I know this because.. My IQ is WAY above the average teenage.. wait the average adult to be exact. Yet I fail a test and get the result of reading like a 6th grader when the last time i took it I read above a college/adult level. Then a "college prepreation" class.. which by the way I believe prepares you to be a failure, messed me up even more!! I cannot believe I let a class get to me so much! No offense to those who like the class, but AVID has helped me not succeed or do better, but do worse! I was a straight A student, always had the highest GPA, always had a high role in anything, always respected, always depended on for the correct answer or for help. And now I am an average student. Teachers look at me like they look like them.. An idiot, a failure to human nature.. NOTHING!

This is about the gap between 'strategic learning' and 'deep learning'.

Cultivate an interest, and be particularly good at a particular thing. This is called 'mastery', it's part of being an educated person, and you will experience the psychological feeling of 'flow' (Csíkszentmihályi).

You can look up all of the terms I've used and find out more.
