If Fiddles Were Feathers

If Fiddles Were Feathers

A Poem by Jeannie Stevens
"

Step into a nonsensical and imaginative place where children's dreams fly

"
If fiddles were feathers, I’d tickle you a tune
If monkeys wore sweaters, it wouldn’t be June
If all of my problems were tiny and small
They’d go in a wagon for fairies to haul

If the sun came up on a foggy day
I’d call on the wind to blow it away
Giggles and grins would huddle and spy
From behind every door and I wouldn’t ask why

If sailors could sail on a peppermint ship
Upon chocolate waves, what a wondrous trip
I would paint the sky pink with a magical wand
The trees would dance by the lemonade pond

If bruises and bumps made me laugh not cry
I’d stand on a mountain to take off and fly
My back would sprout wings and my toes would flutter
I’d land on a sea of sweet apple butter

If fiddles were feathers, I'd play a soft song
My days would be sweet and ever so long
I’d sleep in the shade of the hum of my mother
And dream candy dreams, one after another

Jeannie this is really nice, and very evocative. I don't know if you're familiar with Gordon Lightfoot's song 'The Pony Man', but it's in a very similar vein. Delightful fantasy escapism, though yours also has the nice link to your mother. Tiny edit - should the first line of the final verse be "I'd play ...."
