-- wow... through my prism, on the face of it, this might be about 'prophets' who study the contents of 'the astronaut diaper'... possibly with the objective of improving it or inventing a new type... and i just looked up the topic and found that "Public awareness of astronaut diapers rose significantly following the arrest of Lisa Nowak, a NASA astronaut charged with attempted murder, who gained notoriety in the media when the police reported she had driven 900 miles, with an adult diaper..." -- she denied wearing them though...
-- at a deeper level, this seems to me about how a poet who is also a scientist might find such 'prophets' morbid... -- perhaps the poet wants the absence of morbid things in the scientific world... -- maybe he wishes that the beauty of science was not violated by the 'prophets'... -- at another level, this could mean any kinda overkill... for me, personally, it's the kind that happens on indian television these days... -- they call it a 'debate' on 'relevant issues' but they go to all kinds of morbid levels of putrid discussion... -- t.v. journalists actually behave like 'prophets'... and i find their behaviour 'disgusting'...
-- i think you are brilliant at writing extended metaphors... and if someone is attentive when in your class, one can actually learn how to write an extended metaphor...
You words, they caused me to read over and over. This poem makes me want to pick your mind and know more. A poet who leaves questions only leaves me longing for more. Write on!!!
