politics

politics

A Poem by SkinlessFrank

it started out

with a vision but after that

toes became mildewed

folks vomited up whole beefsteaks

dogs ate their tails

the generals ordered that filth be weaponized

and the children

in the schoolyard

flew off like a flock of geese

Politics, a filthy, weaponized word in itself. the last stanza, huge. bears repeating.

"and the children
in the schoolyard
flew off like a flock of geese"

amen.

-- i don't think images could be more powerful and more apt (and more unique) than in this piece of poetry... -- the degeneration of that vision is about so many things... including... the language of discourse, the choice of issues to politicise, the brazenness with which ulterior motives are brandished as 'new ideals' to be achieved, the more and more subliminal ways in which the masses are brainwashed... etc. etc. ... -- your poem reminds me of the role of the poet... and it is to comment on his or her times... without mincing words... without being apologetic... and in a way that the message remains the most important part of poetic expression... (even if it has been rendered skillfully)... -- i have this theory... which is not exactly scientific... but it's how i feel... -- for every bad word that these politicians utter, there should at least be an equal number of words that condemn those words unequivocally... so thank you for republishing this post, Maestro D. ...
