Apple A DayA Poem by AndromedaschoolAn apple a day keeps the Doctor Away: A high price but One he could gladly pay. He ate the apples with a grimace— While his mother smiled down— And felt that The apples tasted Gray. But when, today, the Torturous medicine Was taken, He ran outside— Ran outside to play: His mother’s warning voice Nothing but a Whir in his ear: “Bundle up, dear, For, in this weather, No doctor will come all the way out here!” He stayed in the snow Until his feet were frozen as Mid-winter mornings And His nose burned with woe. He turned his face up to The clouds— Licked the snow: Ice-cream on a summer day. Ran back to the house At the approach of bitter Night’s breeze. There, in the entryway, Came his first sneeze. “I thought,” he whined, Trying to push the sniffles away, “I thought An apple a day Kept the doctor away!”
