Old Man Winter

Old Man Winter

A Poem by Andromeda

Old Man Winter’s out tonight.

Slam the door and lock it tight,

            Batter down the hatches and

            Call it a twenty-blanket-pile night:

Old Man Winter’s out again.

            Don’t let him in.

            Don’t let him in.

            Don’t let him in.

Old Man Winter’s chilling vengeance:

Put two pairs of socks on your toes,

Plop a hat on your head and

            Cover your frozen red nose.

Old Man Winter’s pounding at the door—

            Knocking

            Knocking

            Knocking,

Knocking the leaves from their perch,

Cracking the elm’s limbs and splitting the birch,

            Bringing an icy, icy curse.

Old Man Winter’s out tonight.

            Don’t let him in.

            Don’t let him in.

Light a candle and hover by the fire and

            Keep him out.

            Keep him out.

            Keep him out.

I like this poem, it's different to most of the poems I've read recently. The use of personification and repetition throughout this piece has a great effect on the reader and adds a superb outlook on the poem. Well done, keep it up.
