Grandmother's Drapes

Grandmother's Drapes

A Poem by Andromeda
"

experimenting...

"

She once—

            A childhood-long Once—

Wondered

And wished

That she could make a dress

            Out of her Grandmother’s Drapes—

A long, floor-kissing

Heavy-with-so-much-fabric-dress,

Made out of the Drapes

Like Scarlet O’Hara’s dress in          Gone With the Wind

That would surround her always in

            The scent of home cooking:

            Just-right mashed potatoes

            And

            Jam on oven-baked Blueberry Bread—

            Ten dozen scents

                        Soaked into

                                    The Cranberry-colored, Silk-shaded

                                                Grandmother’s Drapes—

And

Pennies

For her

Thoughts.
