This feeling
day on day, week on week -
it's a combination of things.

Yes, it's about the climate crisis
and the denial or inertia
of governments and corporations.

It's also about communities, nations even,
losing to the melting ice
and rising of the waters,
the spreading deserts, deforestation
and the wrecking of Earth's systems.
It's about beaches and rivers caked in filth.
And it's about the squaring up
of opposing forces,
the manipulation of truth
in pursuit of power and status..

But it's also one step forward, two back
where poverty and injustice
are on the increase and accepted as inevitable.
And it's about disrespect for moral values
and acceptance of division, dispute,
intolerance, war, invasion,
a poisoning of minds, a denial of rights and freedoms as inevitable.

And you wonder: where are the true leaders,
the statesmen, the fair-minded, the prophets.

So much in the pockets of the money-men.
No, it's not just one thing
day on day, week on week,
it is a combination of things.
It's a damming coagulation of everything.

It seems the carnival is nearly over.
Is this the way life's meant to be?
