The Joker's Song

This is technically a fan piece I wrote after seeing The Dark Knight. It's a song from the Joker's perspective, detailing what he might say to other characters.

Chaos builds within your soul
And bursts out in your laughter.
Hear the clock tick in your ear,
And wonder what comes after,
After flames and shrapnel fly,
After structure’s failed you…
What will there be left to say
When colors are shown true?

And who are you now?
Your shield has lost its whiteness!
Where are you left,
When panic falls to silence?
And now, what a surprise…
Now they see the Joker in your eyes!

Play your cards, it’s you or them,
Only one way to survive!
Would you die a hero’s death,
Or as the villain stay alive?
Time to let the game begin,
Sow a little chaos here!
Let the dogs run off the chain,
See how they react in fear!

And who are you now?
Your shield has lost its whiteness!
Where are you left,
When panic turns to silence?
And now, what a surprise…
Now they see the Joker in your eyes!

Oh, what fun! A lively game,
When you play it for your life!
And, of course, the wild card
Orchestrates the central strife…
