Sweethearts all for
getting me here.
doctors, nurses,
professorials,
home care staff.
I needed them all,
for roads travelled,
laneways many,
tracks I've wandered,
sometimes dead ends, but
they've always been ....
Sweethearts for
many routines daily in
different situations.
They're all different and
have their ways;
different brands of humour,
different personalities.
Just to bend, go with the flow,
of who and how they are.
The beauty in that!
I see them everyday,
so familiar, yet
never far from me.
Friendships enjoyed,
four years now, but
years before.
I see them everyday,
always cheery, always upbeat,
lifting my mood,
bringing me back ....
they know me;
what I'm like,
what I like,
what I don’t,
my routines,
morning, evening,
the things of my day.
they help me to walk,
the confidence, courage
to keep going,
they help me to see a better day,
come so far,
can't go back would be
to let them down.
they share of themselves
to distract me,
set the mood for the day,
they will bring
their light,
their brightness,
their laughter,
their matter-of-fact,
their guidance, advice
in many ways.
Carers come, carers go
Some we gel,
others we don't, but
all so important to me, for
steps, laps, the journey,
the direction, the goal!
They are to me, as I to them,
each looks out for the other,
Days, weeks pass
before seeing,
I miss them,
they're almost family.
Loving, caring,
I for them too.
a need, dependency,
a new learning,
to look beyond,
to think tomorrow.
an independence held,
determination driven,
a realisation dawning.
To consider the
distances I've made, but
this Stroke, Me, but
so many others too,
to get this body going again.
Together, we are a team!
almost like family,
I can hear footsteps in the hall,
which one today? I know their steps.
sometimes they use
my moisturiser,
my mirror to
adjust their hair.
they sing along
to my radio.
I love their confidence,
that they feel at home.
Sweethearts,
friends I've come
to know, and yet
as family, a circle,
a bonding, a connection,
we look out for each other,
our worlds drawn close.
Learning of their lives,
of their families,
hearing their stories,
small glimpses of their
other clients.
They're all sweethearts
in my heart and I love them all
for what they've done.
see them everyday,
very dear to me in their
familiarity, openness.
But me;
my routines, my life,
what I do,
how I do,
why I do,
all are sweethearts.
My friend. Old man poetry. I call the kind people. Sweetheart and darling. Old words and good words. I liked the honest thoughts and thankfulness in the words Richard. Thank you my friend for sharing the amazing poetry and your thoughts.

Thank you Coyote for reading and for your comments. I knew about Stroke, but when it happened, it was the furthest thing from my mind. Because of my medical past, the Stroke drew in many people. After 4 1/2 years we've worked so hard to get me this far. All of them are amazing individuals and the work they've done. I couldn't let the skills of them go without saying of my gratitude.
Take care my friend.

Thank you Coyote for your kind words. I'm doing okay now and reccoverd fairly well. Luckily my speech, cognitive ability (my poetry remains, thank heavens), but sight was affected. Presently, I'm still learning to walk unassisted. Despite this I'm well and happy.
Take care
Richard
dear Richard.. you have described exactly what our days become when medical procedures are ongoing, such as... Dialysis and so forth. The charitable Nurses and Doctors who save lives... perfect poetry to be cherished. gently, Pat

Nice to meet you. Thank you for reading and your comments. Stoicism and bravado, but my Stroke took care of that and I realised I needed these people. I love them all and so grateful for the distance I've come with their immense help..
