Australia Day 🇦🇺A Poem by Richard MAcross the country from sand to sand we celebrate the green and gold, with respect we recognise a land generations old. A land steeped in history, a people young and proud, with freedoms we enjoy today the liberty's we're allowed. We celebrate things of Aussie pride, the jewel of sun under southern skies. We remember liberties enjoyed today, men and women who paved the way. We celebrate OUR culture, that of who we are, but underneath a carefree life there is a festering scar. Night skies, our southern stars, cockatoos and pink galahs, our summer sun and beach tides aussie fun and water slides. We celebrate our way of life, regardless whether black or white. They're raising the flag in town square, a barby breakfast happening there. Throwing thongs, a cockroach race celebrating this, our place. People from other nations in citizenship celebrations. A cricket match in the park, a country concert till after dark. But this itch won't go away regardless of Australia Day, to move it here, to move it there, the itch will still be there. Aussie, Aussie, Aussie, Oi, Oi, Oi is the sporting call, this is our country, our heritage, made for one for ALL. Australia Day celebrates just who we are, OUR flag of the southern stars. One day I hope we understand we are one from sands to sands. I pray we overcome and understand that we are ONE. But there are rumblings in our land of occupations stand, but truths they just don't understand. A day will always exist and the itch remain. Australia Day is one day, whatever be the date, but unity together before it is too late?? We recognise our indigenous who've trod this red soil, but isn't this the same sun under which we toil? We're ALL part of the story, ALL write pages in this country's glory. To the enclaves that exist within metropolis, you're here now aren't you, you're now just one of US? So put away your flags, warring violence too, and take in beauty surrounding and have an Aussie view. No other flag but the Southern Cross is waving proud and free, just to celebrate this jewel, home to you and me. © 2025 Richard MReviews
