Here at the end
Just me and my friend.
We play and we fight
All day and all night.
We whisper and yell
Over tall trees that fell.
A cardinal in sight
We see with little light.
We skip to my Lou
And run out of the blue.
We light fires with matches
And try to do some patchin'.
Best friends forever
Together through the never.
I see her sweet reflection
Black eyes of detection.
Her face, I need to see,
Instead, it's just me.
In the forest, alone.
The cold in my bones.
