As A Little ChildA Poem by Steve HWas in a sentimental mood :D
As a little child I used to play out in the sludge,
My welly-boots were much too big, through mud I used to trudge.
I’d see my footprints on the ground and hunt out all the worms,
Who wriggled whilst I called them names and gave me icky germs.
I used to chase the butterflies they always flew too quick,
I never caught a single one so daddy longlegs I would pick.
I used to blow the dandelions and watch the seeds go drifting,
I used to find fat sluggers under rocks that I was lifting.
I used to love to run down hills my legs would be all blurry,
The opposite of caterpillars, chubby slow and furry.
I also loved to jump in puddles, the deepest ones that I could get,
I’d watch the water, splashing round me, feel my socks get soaking wet.
I used to sit upon the swings and will myself to touch the sky,
I never made it to the clouds, I never did quite found out why?
And now I’m no longer a child, I miss the world of simple pleasure,
Where we loved to see a rainbow; where shiny conkers were a treasure.
But why should we conform to boredom, I don’t want to live that way!
I’ll stay an infant on the inside, in long grass I’ll go and lay.
I’ll run down all the hills I see and marvel when I see the snow,
Ill still go splashing in the puddles, squelch in mud where’re I go.
