An Unrequited Lover Weeps For His Love

An Unrequited Lover Weeps For His Love

A Poem by Sujash I. Purna
"

My bittersweet reminiscences about the girl of my dream; Nellie Pierce, whom I could never tell how much I loved her...My love was pure...I wish she realised...

"

(Now)

I’m worn out and gray
Having tried for ages and ages
To be the one you always wanted.
Age is swallowing me
With fake teeth and varicose ulcer,
I limp beneath your window
I hear your faint snoring from the love-nest

(Soon)
A good wife of a very good gentleman

(Why I know)
My serenades have no meaning now
They sound cliché
Like some ribald ballads by a dirty old man to his Lolita

I knew you would have
Clung to a fake plastic love
But my love was pure but
I was of no value
To your society
I was just a humbug dithering around
I was invisible.

(Now)
Age is savouring me like hungry dogs.
I’m kneeling down.
I feel so small now
To ever think of lending you my heart.
You deserve better than a puny man,
Of a feckless breeding;
Dark and strange;
Stranger than Cathy’s Heathcliff.

(I have heard old sages say
Never the twain shall meet)

I envy you, envy how they love you
Your society, your beau
They outweigh mine in your eyes… (sigh)

I’ll be happy to hear that you’re happier than
Any other girl in the world…
Your lover loves you so who am I to love you?
Your happiness is all I want…

Shucks! Only if you were trapped in my love
I wouldn’t have grown old by this time
With you invincible, immortal I would have been…

(Now)
I’m terrified
About my society, my memento mori
But those eyes of yours; lapis lazuli
I can never cease loving
I’ll love them till my very last breath
I’ll love the long hair
Of a reluctant Rapunzel
No matter how unrequited I am…
Your poetry
The words we used to sing
The dreams we used to share
Even though you’ve forgot

I’ll cling on to them no matter how much I am laughed at…

Some dreams will stay with us always. Some people we needed and care for forever. I like this poem. Your description for a woman you have loved and is still in your dreams is beautiful. Thank you for the excellent poem.

I love the way you split this peom up into times - it's really unique. It's a really sad story, and I feel for you :( Great work, well done :)

This screams of the injustice of the indian society to me .Where status not love guides the lives but not the hearts of the people
