Eroding Hope

Eroding Hope

A Poem by Sumo

As your drunken days pass me by I'm left with a little less of myself
I feel like the pages torn out of a book on the shelf

It takes so much out of me to try and be caretaker
Always attempting to be the peacemaker

I will never give up, for I have so much to give
We have but this one life to live

I just hope when this beast is finally tamed, I have enough left for you to love
Im trying my best to help you realize, what you're made of

Never even when we split up have I hurt so much
Not even when all I missed was your touch

I hurt not for myself but for what I see you going through
A day will come when all this is in the rearview

I'd give my life to see you rid of this addiction
Free from this evil affliction

To see you finally happy and in control of your life completely
When our paths finally intersect and you meet me

You'll finally be the woman God wants you to be
Until then it takes faith and trust this you'll see

I know it will happen according to his timing
And hopefully through a little of this rhyming

I'll continue to pray for strength and guidance to help us through this
I'll be your stern rock when needed and your gentle reassuring kiss
