Home Sweet Home

Home Sweet Home

A Poem by Sumo

A newborn hatched into this cruel world
I open my glazed eyes to see
My weak wings unfurl
As my first breath fills me

A gentle wind wraps itself around
Noise escapes my mouth, I chirp
Sights to see all surround
Now I've become alert

Pain fills my stomach, mouth dry I thirst
Swooshing in, my mother rests
With sustenance then dispersed
She leaves again with a gentle caress

Only known this nest that I inhabit
Days pass by as I lay in wait
Routine becomes my annoying habit
As I grow in strength and in weight

Time has come to explore the sky
Mother pushes me with gentle care
I fall with great speed, till wings open, I fly
Rising without a second to spare

High above I look down to see
An unknown world and it's many dangers
Her loving face gazes up at me
Warning me of new found strangers

I will make mistakes and veer off path
Overcome at times I stop and rest
Doing my best to make each one my last
For I know I can always go home to nest
