Static

A Poem by Sumo

Since when has depression become my obsession
Why can’t I just learn my lesson

If you had really loved me you wouldn’t have been able to just switch it off and I wouldn’t be suffering this loss

If you prey on me, I’m gonna pray for you
One day you’ll wish as I, that we weren’t through

Now I only listen to words that promise to deliver
Those I find in the scripture
Ignoring those lies that so easily flowed from your river

My heart used to skip like the rocks we tossed
Now I feel as if it’s paused

I still hurt, you aren’t easily left behind
Too many things around to remind
How much I enjoyed our time

With all things, this too shall pass
I have to learn to leave you in my past
Giving love, yet another chance
