Is current education system making our students employable?

A Story by Sunaina Roy

Since the beginning of the world, it has been realized as the universal fact that education is the future to success of every nation and every individual. It is not just necessary for the development of people on a society level but it is also important requirement on a personal level. Education helps to broaden the perspective and mind of humans by making them learn new things and knowledge that helps in the cognitive development of the people and ignites the discerning ability in humans by enlightening them the good and bad aspects of things.

The acceptance of universal fact made people realize the importance of education and its impacts on personal and societal level. Nations who banked on this fact and strengthened their education systems are now the most advance and prosperous countries of the world. They have achieved this status by educating their people and making them knowledgeable. India also aims to be one of the prosperous countries of the world by educating its massive young population that can turn out to be the biggest potential resource for the country.

Unfortunately, India is lagging behind in this sector. India has major flaws in the education system and it possesses an outdated education system. it is still following the conventional modes of teaching and imparting knowledge where major emphasis is on making students learn each and every word of the book. It places strong emphasis on bookish knowledge and pays less attention to making the students understand the concept and get a grip on it. This is the reason why students just memorize the words for the sake of exams and then later they forget it.

This approach towards education is having adverse ripple effects in the economy too. The graduates that are being produced by this system serve no good to the society and have very low employment. This is due to the fact that these students do not possess any practical and vocational skills that are required in the job market. They just know the bookish content whereas the world works on creativity and skill.

The education system of the country has clearly failed in preparing students for the job market which is there is so much unemployment in the country. There is a dire need for the government and authorities to get concerned and implement effective measures. These calls for nationwide institute accreditation which would ensure compliance with globally accepted and applied policies in education which would improve the education sector of the country.

What a brilliant article - this is very significant and much needed to commence national dialogues with leadership - (although leaders are rather hazy!). I thoroughly agree with your views and for any change to take place, we need to address issues from grass-root levels.
