ADDICTIONA Poem by Roger TurgeonLies we tell ourselvesADDICTION It crawls like a spider between my brain and my skull My reasoning, once sharp, made murky and dull “Do it”, it whispers for my lone ears to hear “You deserve it”, I’m reminded as the occasion draws near “No one will ever know”, I lie to myself once again “It won’t happen anymore”, or certainly not often It is done… but the euphoria is fleeting Shame and disgust soon arrive for their meeting A vow is made as it has in each event past This wasn’t the first time and it won’t be the last © 2014 Roger TurgeonReviews
