Long DistanceA Poem by Mariana SilvaThe calls I used to wait for...
Lying awake on this night, I sit waiting next to the phone. Just hoping to catch the love in your voice As you tell me about your day. With each passing moment, my fright, Increases along with just how alone I feel with my choice. But I look ahead to what you may say. Don’t disappoint me, please. Waited the day throughout for your sole words, Listening to no other than you, Hoping to please you with my praise, And ward away the evils of the day. All these endless roads, Have led me all the way towards you. Your love has helped to fill up my days, Especially when ‘I love you’ is what you say. Hon’ I will never love another, The singular way I love you. Believe me when I say it And trust in me that I shall always love you. With this love, I will not smother. My love for you will always be true, For without you my soul would have never come alit. I hope that’s how you feel too. Riling you up with incessant questions, Wondering when I will become perfect So that you can just be happy with me. Now all I can do is wait and hope the phone call makes it through. Yet, when another mentions, How wonderful love in their lover’s eyes reflect, The distance starts to break me. But baby, I’m stayin’ true. © 2008 Mariana Silva |
