AscentA Poem by Mariana SilvaThe joy withing the depths of my soul I cannot so easily give to you
The final day draws so near, Preparing at last to depart, Nothing left to stay for. Graduation day, Senior Breakfast, Senior activities, All that lot! At last, we face our ultimate fear. Soon, all our friends will be far apart, As we depart on a quest for MORE! At graduation, it doesn’t matter what they may say, Or how they may carry out their joyous fests. It no longer matters how we dress for festivities. Is this the beginning of the end, I think not! Kindred spirits, I leave you today, No longer shall I know the joy Of being with you. Weep not, rejoice in the freedom you will never know. You must join a well-beaten path As I join a path unbeknownst to all others. No longer is life so intimidating to me. As I embrace this wondrous day I can finally partake fully of unlimited joy. I cannot give this joy to you, Joy for you to know, not understand and know. Do not follow my path, I can not allow you to crowd it with the dreams of others. I can allow you only to look on and see… My ascent! © 2008 Mariana SilvaAuthor's Note
