War MotherA Poem by Mariana SilvaA poem I wrote a while ago as a small retaliation against my now ex-boyfriend in relation to war...I'm anti-war, not anti-soldier.
Please tell me we have a purpose, That this is life means something more. This is the opportunity I don’t want to miss, Otherwise leaving my heart oh so sore. Honey, come on home, Stop fighting for this country, please. Kids are asking when you’re coming home, Asking God fervently as they fall to their knees. “Mommy, call daddy,” The constant pleas wearing on my strength. The sound of your voice like a well deserved candy, Constantly waiting for it in length. Saw the news yesterday, and it scared me. Announcing the death of three soldiers, Thinking, “Please Lord, don’t let it be,” When can we stop the extermination of soldiers? With every day, another widow is made. Sometimes a lone survivor, and other times… Too often, the women and men are far too dismayed At the mere sound of the church chimes. When they announce the return of a soldier, It isn’t always as they were. Families receiving the empty body of a former soldier, Shells! Shells of who they once were. Honey, come on home, Stop fighting for this country, please. Kids are asking when you’re coming home, Asking God fervently as they fall to their knees. Losing the support of those still here, I prefer that you stay home So baby, please come home. © 2008 Mariana Silva |
