A Broken Wing

this is about someone who is in love but fate stepped in.

I felt a wispy feather in the wind
a whimsical breeze softly touching my skin.
I was a bird in a cage hoping to sing
waiting to fly upon a broken wing.

 

Whispers of love I had stolen for you
inviting and hoping to start anew.
Like a bird wanting to dance in the trees
I felt the spring fever of lovers breeze.

 

I waited for you to unlock destiny's door
inviting to fly away with you and soar.
Freedom was above the mountaintops
above the clouds where there are no locks.

 

I waited for your wingspan to lead the way
but my broken wing was not meant to stray.

It doesn’t matter how we come to read someone new to us, but in this case I was drawn to the personal irony of this title because of a non-metaphorical broken wing suffered last March that caused a lengthy absence from writer’s café for much of the better part of this last year until a few days ago. Since I am starting over I am reading new writers and have been pleasantly surprised discovering your writing.
Your sentiments are the expressions from the heart of a true romantic. This one flows wonderfully and is a complete joy to read, light and playfully whimsical as the feather that metaphorically brushes the skin you speak of. And yet… love may be density, however choosing to surrender to it is a conscious choice. This one tugs at the heart’s strings and I love it…
