Beyond

Beyond the lilac mist of the twilight

where tousled sheets and limbs entwine

and red lipstick on a satin pillow

are empty glasses of elderberry wine~

 

Beyond the burning wick of candlelight

still warm from the night before

is the whisper of passionate sighs

still lingering within French doors~

 

Beyond the halo of moonlight

where dark and the light kiss goodbye

and ravished skin once moonlight burned

vanishes with the question why?

This poem rolls off of the tongue beautifully as though words come so effortlessly to you. "Where dark and light kiss goodbye," is such a beautiful image creating a strong sense of a romantic parting through personified night and day. As I got to the end of this poem, I felt that it had a sad feeling to it as though it wasn't the happy ending the poem leads up to though I may be misinterpreting. Very well written.
