Picking Up The Pieces

Picking Up The Pieces

A Poem by Emily Irene.
"

About my father and me.

"
I know you wanna see me get mine,
I know you think you were the first to break me
but let me tell you something:
I don't want to see you get yours,
I couldn't bear to hurt you,
break you into a million pieces.
You are already shattered
and all I want to do
is help pick up and reassemble them.
We're so alike,
you and I,
but I would like to put my puzzle together
and the part that stings
is you don't even know
how tragically cracked your pieces are anymore.

The description is what caught my eye causing me to read this piece. I hope that one day your relationship with your dad will mend somehow. If it is, at all fixable. I love it how you didn't resort to violence and profanity and hatred in your poem. But rather expressed strong sadness.
