Check Marks the Spot

Check Marks the Spot

A Poem by Zach Gordano
"

why society is bad.

"

Canceled checks in the abandoned boat seemed to echo
Across the sea, as if money was his actual legacy.
They say there are two ways to go; they being some sort of society.
Successful, of course, being full of wealth,
And unsuccessful, broke, and always poor.
Well he got his BA, then his Ph.D.,
So he is a success right out of college.
But what is his success? Money?
Sure, he is reeling in $100,000 a year,
But what about the deed he has done for society?
Unappreciated, his life falls askew, downhill.
Nobody truly respects him.
One day he took his boat out to sea.
A checklist in hand, with one item to be carried
Out.
The echoes wailed across the sea, being ignored.
Rolling Thunder is a familiar sound around here.
Check.
