Oh, Church is just a Fashion Show

Oh, Church is just a Fashion Show

A Poem by TTBoy28

Grand words

Statements are made

As they enter the doors

To hear the Gospel spread

A nod

A glimpse

Even from the preacher

while his wife sits close by

Gawking with jealousy

Orchestrated Amens

Applaud the podium

For attention

He knows

 who he wants next

White bears no sign of purity

just eagerness

to be eager

The sermon is so clear

as to who is to fear

Prepped to lay low

Oh, the Church is just a fashion show

A dress rehearsal for

the horn to blow

So the designer will

have his due fill

for the ears hear his skill

and tilt the till

Come see the Garden of Eden

bend Saville Rowe

while his wife sits by

and dare to show

just how often the blood does flow

It compels them all

To take the fall

Next Sunday is

Swimwear

And boys

rest high in banana hammocks

 and toys

and pretty things like socks

This title is intriguing to me. I don't frequent churches, but my daughter convinced me to go with her a few years ago and the main point of the service had to do with wearing the right clothes. So, it was literally about church as a fashion show!

Your writing is eloquent. I like the way this poem flows and how it begins with all the pomp and circumstance of church and ends by reducing this to something as trivial as socks.

Good subject ... All religions now emphasise on margins vs. the true content and most in the history did a lot in the name of religion ... All religions should go back to the true message or essence...

I'm a Christian but unfortunately I do see this in some places.
Tragic. Spiritual growth over organized religion, I say.

~ what has happened to society ? ... or, was it always like this ? ...
~ almost all religions seem to be diluting their own purpose...
