Your World On My Shoulders

Your World On My Shoulders

A Poem by TTBoy28

When Natalie Merchant sings

“Trouble Me,”

I hear her say, “Cover Me”

For it’s just another way for

us to carry each other on

To hear you

I read the electricity you bring

To feel you

I relate that which you share

with me

How can I judge

that which splinters my tail

Short arms reach only so far behind me

Even spinning deliriously

Will I catch myself without you?

Can I catch myself without you?

Am I with you even without you?

What good is it to help me dress

and not give me your blessing?

For as I step out

I not only have the world against me

Is that too much to ask

Should I have to ask when I hear you?

I feel you

But do I know you

Do I know you though I only believe

 you know me?

What better way to serve you

than to continue to be your ear and footstool

Continue and carry on

the weight of your world on my shoulders

as your personal merchant
