You Turned Your Phone Off

You Turned Your Phone Off

A Poem by TTBoy28

Hey, you turned your cell phone off

Just so you couldn’t hear me cough

Even turned your microphone down

While you spread my T around town

Seven digits were all you had to dial

Still I’m not a memory you can file

Seven digits right below my name

What’s so much is it was all your game

I do remember when

We wondered if being friends was a sin

We told each other every thing

Down to which hand or thing would hold a ring

Now how can I reach you

If ever I wanted to beseech you

Even if it’s long distance

Not a stalker just call it persistence

We had all the French benefits

I even bought a few mail-order kits

When I thought we were doing fine

You made it a point to just draw the line

I played the game you wanted to play

Who’d a thought it would end this way

Maybe you need a new voice

So your green pasture can stay proper and moist

Then keep your phone turned off

So you don’t have to hear me cough

Keep the ringer turned way down low

Don’t let ‘em say I told you so
