Undeserving

Why are these things happening to my friends?

They do not deserve them,

Surely it’s my punishment.

Ben’s dog,

Austin’s dog,

Emily’s boyfriend.

Surely it’s an attempt to crush me.

Seeing my friends in pain. . .

That blade cuts deeper than any other.

They should not take my punishment for me,

They do not deserve them.

 

Why can I not help them?

Why can I feel sympathy and empathy,

But not put it into words?

Why can I hurt for them,

But not make them stop hurting?

These evils created as torture,
They do not deserve them.

Surely it should be me.
