Stupid Pools

Stupid Pools

A Story by Kiara

I have a relatively bad experience with swimming pools, and I wrote them in the order that they happened.
It all started when I was very young and I was at my grandma's house in her pool.  I was only one or two and could not swim yet, so I was drifting about the pool in my snazzy little yellow saucer floaty.  I began to lean forward, and the water came right up to my face, and I thrashed around, lungs burning for air.  The floaty had flipped upside down and I was stuck, unable to save myself.  My parents finally noticed and set me back up to go on with my water patrolling.
The second time a pool attacked me also happened at my grandmother's pool.  I was plenty old enough to swim, and had no trouble whatsoever.  This time, the problem wasn't drowning.  Instead, I grabbed the side of the pool to catch my breath and there was a bee hive.  With my incredible luck, my hand started to grab right over a yellow jacket.  The yellow jacket was obviously displeased with me because he stung me.  I was not and still am not allergic to bees, so I was fine.
My third frightening experience wasn't me drowning either.  Instead, my brother and I were watching our niece.  Nevaeh was just a little girl around four or possibly five.  The pool was not deep and we could all stay above the water perfectly fine.  Our mother said something to us as she crossed the driveway, causing my brother and I to look at her rather than Nevaeh.  One second she was above water and the next, I look back over to see her eyes staring at me from under the water.  I pulled her up, and she spluttered and coughed.  She was still okay, thank goodness.
I was helping my family house sit for the weekend at my cousins' house.  They went to Florida for part of their Summer Vacation.  We were having fun and swimming in the pool until it was time to go inside.  First, we had to cover up the pool.  My mother and I were the only ones left outside, so we got stuck with the chore.  I swam to the other end and helped spread out the cover.  Once it was all ready to go, I went under and began swimming to a gap in the cover.  I swam straight at first, but apparently my judgement was off.  When I came up for air, the cover surrounded me, very little air inside.  I took a deep breath.  Carbon Dioxide entered my lungs and the cover sealed itself so close to me.  I went back under, in absolute panic.  I pulled at the cover and swam frantically until, finally, I felt an opening.  I pushed up and gasped for air, trying not to cry out in the pleasure of Oxygen in my lungs.
The last incident where I was attacked by water was in gym class.  We had to go swimming and we couldn't choose what we did.  We started out by doing laps around the pool.  Then we had to toss a ball between us and our partner.  I was the shortest on in the class and I was already tired from earlier, not to mention I had skipped lunch.  My partner's name was Kassidy and we were good friends, and not that great at swimming.  I couldn't touch the bottom about a third of the way through and began struggling to stay above water.  We still managed to toss the ball back and forth, but I was exhausted.  I was choking on water and chlorine was burning in my eyes.  I could hardly see or breathe.  We also had to go the whole way back doing the same thing, with no break.  I eventually stopped throwing the ball because I was throwing it feet away from my partner anyways.  I just focused on getting to the shallow end before I drowned.  I felt lightheaded and wanted nothing more than to pass out, but I kept going.  Finally, I made it to where I could stand, but only to discover we had to do another lap....
