Quantico

A Poem by Tracie D'Angelo

How many friends have you buried, old man?

And do you still cry for them all?

Do you long to be with them, kind sir?

Did you watch them fall?

I’ve seen you laugh around their headstones

I think they are laughing too

My heart feels very warm inside

Just to watch your friends and you

It makes me hope, when my time comes

That my friends will all be there

And sit and laugh with my headstone

To show they truly care

I wrote this poem after visiting Quantico with my best friend. His grandfather is buried there and he asked me to come along. I gave him a moment alone at his grandfather's headstone and turned my attention to a group of older gentlemen standing over a headstone. They were all laughing and it seemed like they were reminiscing over older memories. You never see laughter in a cemetery. I hope when I pass people won't stop laughing with me either.

Where is Quantico? This is a great poem. I agree, I'd love people to laugh with me even when I have passed away.
