A boy and his bearA Poem by TechOnly my teddy in hand, light is fading fast so I take my stand. Cover my face with my blanket. It’s my cloak, my strengthening hope. Protecting me from the dark. Creatures that crawl on three legs, coming from the closet and disrupting my toys. Why do the ones who love me so much, leave me in such a place? Tell me it’s ok as they shut off the lights. Close the door as if I will sleep tonight. I can see the red eyes poking out from under the bed. The scary thoughts that forever linger in my head. I close my eyes hoping it all goes away. But instead I begin to hear the scratching of claws. I tremble in fear cover myself with the sheets for
protection. Why must this happen to me? I put all my toys away today. I was a good boy, as good as can be. I must rush for the switch to flood my room with
salvation, that will burn
the monster away. But the beasts will reach for my legs if I leave my
safe haven. I swallow hard and make my dash. Dodge over every pair of eyes I see. The streams of light pour from the lamp over my room. Safety from a nightmarish tale. I can finally sleep in peace but dread for tomorrow
night. Because every night is another struggle, to reach the dreams that help escape the world of
bedroom beasts. © 2015 Tech |
