CORRIDOR MEETING.

CORRIDOR MEETING.

A Poem by Terry Collett
"

A BOY WAITS FOR A GIRL IN A SCHOOL CORRIDOR IN 1962

"

I would wait
for her after lessons,
but mostly I waited in vain.

The semi-lit corridor,
the dull lights,
prints of famous artists,
but not her, no sign.

Smell of bodies,
late afternoon tiredness,
boring lessons
taking their toll,
but no sign of her
in green skirt,
white blouse
and green patterned tie;
just others rushing
some place else.

Once or twice
I saw her,
once she stopped
and a kiss
was managed,
lips to lips.

O how did
Heaven allow?
But we seldom meet
in the dull lit
corridor now.
