BENEATH A SKY 1961

BENEATH A SKY 1961

A Poem by Terry Collett
"

A BOY AND GIRL IN THE SUMMER OF 1961 IN A FIELD

"

Butterflies
fluttering
the sun warm

above us
as we lay
in a field

of tall grass
and Jane says
I love this

being here
just us two
I watch her

beside me
her black hair
her dark eyes

her profile
yes me too
I answer

our fingers
just touching
skin to skin

some cows moo
in a field
nearby us

an airplane
goes over
in the sky

Daddy says
the best art
is the sky

above us
Jane informs
at sunset

or sunrise
I tell her
and night sky

with the moon
and the stars
she suggests

my hand moves
to her thigh
she's smiling

her eyes shine
with sunlight
her hand moves
onto mine.

i love how your poetry is bringing me back---Vermont, first kisses, the innocence, the daring...of those catholic boys and girls in the 60's...

it is all there on the menu, when reading your work...great nostalgia.
