DREAMS OF NIGHT 1962

DREAMS OF NIGHT 1962

A Poem by Terry Collett
"

A BOY THINKS OF A GIRL AND DREAMS OF KISSING HER IN 1962

"

Shalom son
mother says
when I'm home

I tell her
all is well
and give her

my best smile
she is pleased
and returns

to cooking
the dinner
in my room

I go stand
and look out
the window

thinking of
Shoshana
wanting me

next to her
sitting down
on the bus

we held hands
and we talked
then she said

of kissing
and promising
tomorrow

and I like
how she says
here Naaman

come sit here
and I did
and felt her

body there
next to mine
thigh to thigh

on the seat
of the bus
my window

shows the small
apple trees
growing in

the orchard
the large bed
where father

grows many
vegetables
Shoshana

with her eyes
o her eyes
how they drink

into mine
and her hand
as we hold

I wish now
we could kiss
she and I

in my room
but she is
miles away

and I'm here
looking out
at the trees

and the sky
birds in flight
maybe I'll

kiss her lips
in my dreams
of this night.
