Handful Of Dead Soldiers 1942.

Handful Of Dead Soldiers 1942.

A Poem by Terry Collett

A handful of soldiers
lay frozen in the snow,
no longer available
for the winter slaughter,
unable to hear
the orders given.

One lay face down
as if he slept,
another lay on his back
eyes opened
as if he watched
the fall of snow
which drifted down
upon his face,
like some lost pilgrim
awaiting grace.
