Geoffrey One Evening 2024.A Poem by Terry Collett
Geoffrey lit a cigarette. Times had changed. Since his wife's demise he had more time alone than ever before. The house had become empty with memories filling most rooms. His past work, hidden from his wife, in MI5 seemed almost surreal now looking back. The Soviet Union and the Warsaw Pact was no more, and another enemy seemed to occupy the security services. In the background a Mahler's symphony played. A glass of wine sat on the coffee table untouched. He recalled incidents of his past but they seemed as if lived in another life. He inhaler deeply. He missed his wife.
