Bill One Find Morning 2024.A Poem by Terry Collett
The small lounge of the Lodge was empty. Bill entered and stood by the wide window and looked out at the street below. People were coming and going. He lit a cigarette and watched the passing people. In half hour it would be breakfast in the dining room and him sitting at the table with the ex+cop and the retired lawyer. Bill mused on the passing people. Like ants, he mused. His mother had been the only one he had loved. She alone knew him as far as any one could. His father was distant and a regular critic on all Bill said or did. His father died some time back. He didn't go to the funeral. He couldn't even if he wanted to as he was on a mission for the Agency. His mother died in hospital and he got there too late to say goodbye. Once the cigarette was done with he stubbed it out in a glass ashtray. The weather looked good and the start of another new day.
